Heineken Cape to Rio 2011 had the Cape South-Easter howled and generally made a nuisance of itself in the build-up to the start of the yacht race, but then abruptly abated on Saturday, resulting in a lame start to the transatlantic event. After rounding a buoy near Mouille Point in Table Bay just after midday, the fleet of 17 yachts opted for routes west and east of Robben Island in a mild south-westerly breeze with the 54ft Prodigy, skippered by Durban yachtsman Chris Frost, taking a commanding early lead.
