It was a tough day for the race committee today. All fleets proceeded on course in a light breeze, which died to nothing within minutes of start time. PRO Trevor Milton wisely decided to blow it up and sent everybody back to the marina to await further instructions.

By noon a light north westerly filled in so the whole process was repeated and this time cruising fleets had a comfortable sail along the West Busselton shoreline while the IRC divisions and sportsboats completed all three scheduled windward/leeward races, which brought them back to shore around 6pm.

A significant wind change just before the third race produced the best sailing breeze of the regatta to date. A south westerly change with gusts in excess of 20 knots made for some interesting sailing.

The IRC Division 1 result is now clear, with The Next Factor completing the program with a perfect score with one race to go, so she will win whether or not she sails tomorrow.

All other divisions are still remarkably close and will need the final race to produce a result. Gary McNally's Grandprix looms as the favourite in IRC division 2, but the competition in this fleet has been intense as all boats fit into a very narrow IRC band. It consists of a number of Bakewell-White 36's, Bull 9000's, Flying Tigers, a Mumm 30 and even the Frers 41 Hitchhiker. Both line honours and handicap results have been shared around.

IRC Division 3 a battle looms between local yachtsman Brad Skeggs in Minds Eye and Michael Finn's S&S 34 Constellation. Minds Eye was the first boat to finish in yesterday's second race, while Constellation failed to make the time limit. With yesterday's third race abandoned, Minds Eye is in a strong position with regard to races she can drop.

The sportsboats continue their fascinating contest. In the absence of InSite Racing, which did not sail today, Kym Nisbet's Bullit scored two line honours wins, while Rum Jungle finished first in the other. Melges 24's won all three races under the sportsboat handicap system also.

Richard Pocock's little trimaran Trinity was quickest of the multihulls today, but it was Ken Mills' tri Vamos which took out the handicap result.
