Geoff Holt's 'Personal Atlantic' challenge, sees him sailing a 60ft, purpose-built, wheelchair-accessible catamaran on a voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. The 2,700 mile journey will take him up to a three weeks to complete.

In completing his Challenge, Geoff Holt will become the first quadriplegic to make the journey, unassisted in every aspect of the sailing.

Here is the latest news on his journey to date:

Geoff Holt is ready to depart the Cape Verde Islands.

Since setting sail from Lanzarote on 10th December, Geoff Holt has made slow progress on his Atlantic crossing. Engine problems forced an unplanned stop at Cape Verde, however, the engineers are currently working on the boat and Geoff hopes that he will be able to depart this evening.

Geoff has used the time to catch-up on some much needed sleep and is looking forward to getting back out on the water. 'The delay to the crossing is frustrating but we did need to solve the engine problems. Hopefully we will get off early this evening and now that the wind will be behind us we will make good progress.'

The weather conditions ahead look good with light NE winds of 5-10knots. If Impossible Dream can maintain an average speed of 6 knots then Geoff should arrive in Tortola on January 6th.

Look out for an update on Geoff's blog later today once the departure time from Cape Verde is confirmed.
