Dragons Battle for Prince Philip Cup

8:32 PM Tue 5 Jan 2010 GMT
'John Anderson’s Achernar - Dragon Nationals - Prince Philip Cup'
Although Puff (Richard Lynn) leads the Dragon nationals after five races, second and third places on the leaderboard are held by Russia's Murka 11 (Olga White) and her husband Mikhail Muratov, sailing Murka 12. Veteran Gordon Ingate holds fourth place and so far has proved unbeatable in light airs.

Five races of the seven race series have been completed and with more light breezes forecast, the stage is set for an exciting finish in the series conducted by the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club on Perth's Swan River.

Muratov, who has already claimed the Ted Albert Trophy (a regatta held as a prelude to the Nationals) still has a chance to win the double with wins in the last two races.

Using the bonus point scoring system, Olga White's drop score at present is a 14, so she is well placed to challenge Richard Lynn for the title. Lynn has two wins and three fourths for a total of 24 points, so needs to score well to clinch the title.

If he can maintain his light weather supremacy in the final two races, Gordon Ingate could upset the leaders, though with scores of 17 and 18 in the first and fifth races respectively, he will need others to place between him and the leaders.

Provisional Scores after race 5 - no drops):

Puff (Richard Lynn) 24
Murka 11 (Olga White) 35.4
Murka 12 (Mikhail Muratov) 42.1
Whim (Gordon Ingate) 48
