A ridge of high pressure extends over central Queensland from the high centred over Western Australia. An upper trough over Queensland will weaken during the day, with the mid level cloud and patchy light rain areas over the southern tropics and Central Coast clearing the coast during the morning. At 0600hr the surface wind at Hamilton Island was 170 deg at 16kn, gusting to 22kn (temp 16C, pressure 1018hPa) indicative of the synoptic wind.
