'Great place to sail - Botany Bay - Maxi.net NSW Tasar State Championships'

The Maxi.net NSW Tasar State Championships are set to kick off this Good Friday with a fleet of 62 boats on Botany Bay from Georges River 16ft Skiff Club.
The event which is set to be the biggest of the season will be held in the Sydney Basin for the first time in a number of years attracting boats from NSW, Northern territory, ACT and Western Australia.
This year's fleet includes current World and NSW State Champions Robert and Nicole Douglass on from the NSW South Coast, and current National and South Australian State Champions Shane Guanaria and Melinda Rippe. Other fleet notables to watch include former World Champion Rick Longbottom on Platform 9 & ?, 505 National Champion Michael Quirk and of course the interstate class stalwarts.

Marine industry leader Jan Scholten who will be competing with his daughter (13) in their first Tasar regatta, in the same Tasar that the Douglass father and daughter duo commenced their Tasar sailing career in back in 1997.
Apart from the scratch results other divisions will be a closely fought out affair. World Grand master Champions Graham and Liz Hanna will be out to retain their divisional title from last year and up to 6 women helmsman will compete for the female helm division. Other titles up for grabs include Masters (combined age of 80+) Grand Masters (combined age of 100+), Super Grand Masters (120+), Junior helm and the highly contested club challenge trophy.
A full social program has been devised by the Tasar Association of NSW to keep the fleet of sailors ranging from 13 to 70 years of age entertained. Known as the Champaign class, the Tasar's history of a healthy social life off the race track continues to attract new-comers to the class. There are no less than ten new combinations of crews competing in their first Tasar State titles this year including husband/wife, father/son/daughter, boyfriend/girlfriend who are all eager to make their mark in the Tasar class which offers more than fantastic racing!
