2.4mR World Championships update

2.4mR World Championships 2009 racing is underway at the Edison Sailing Center, Fort Myers, Florida.

Forty-four competitors are taking part in the five days of of the event, which ends on Friday.

Wednesday's second race was shortened due to the falling breeze and the third race was abandoned.

After two general recalls, Tuesday's second race got underway but was shortened to four legs as the breeze dropped. Competitors battled a full-moon tidal current at the start line.

On the first day of racing the fleet was held on-shore until the fog lifted from the Caloosahatchee River and the breeze set in.

John Ruf (USA) currently leads Carl Horrocks (USA) by two points. Ruf's current drop is an 11th place in race 4, while Horrocks is a 13th also in race 4.

The early event leader Paul Tingley (CAN) is now third after a 14th place in race 5 and a 10th place in race 7. Tingley's current drop is a 15th placing.
