hi all,
Has anyone tried the Starboard Hyper ? It seems the most radical wave board of the production boards, even more the Pyramid Quatro

Yess for 3 weeks in agoust Mauritius Island, from Manawa to Oneye. I've the 88L . This year was real windy sometime too windy so I sailing most in 4.7 but also in 3.7 and 4.2 and a couple of hour I was in 5.2. Yes this board in side side off conditions is magic I love it.
The feature that impressed me the most is the cut back and the ease with which you find the optimal position on the wave.
In waves of 2 to 4 meters, the board is at its best.
In the bottom this board you ride with the thumb of the front foot it is amazing just give pressure to the thumb of the front foot inside the straps that the board makes the turn or rather the arc of the turn you want.
With this board unlike the European ones I felt much safer in the surf, there is no comparison it is another world in its conditions.
In strong winds the board performed well beyond expectation ' used often with the 3.7 and 4.2 at Manawa it was all always under control in the surfing, still great with the 4.2 slightly on the edge with the 3.7 where I maybe lacked a bit of drive while surfing compared to the other bigger sails.
Perfect in surf with the 4.7, goes beyond perfect when used with the 5.2 (used first with no wind and then slightly overpowered).
On days when you could not get out of the lagoon due to weather conditions, the board was equally fun and extremely enjoyable on jumps due to its top end speed, which is remarkable.
The glide start compared to more jump-oriented boards is slightly delayed but still glides well. Upwind and positioning to take precedence on the wave I always found them optimal with the 14cm fins, I have a friend who used it with two 15 fins and it definitely gained something, but I didn't feel the need.
Also used one day onshore which is unusual for Mauritius it was not bad at all in fact I had a lot of fun the important thing is that in onshore conditions you have to have the sail nice and full of wind.
If it helps, the test of this board done by Plance Mag magazine I would say is really well done.
My weight is 73kg.
ciao

First post ever, asking a 'question' but telling us it's the most radical

hmmm

also amongst the most fragile, based on the last few years of Starboard.

Mark, I just say it "seems" the most rad because of its narrow tail and noise, but I don't know ..... I was asking to all the guys that know that board !!!

I,m the same weight as you ,looked at the specs and would have gone the 83 with 56 width the 88 looks too wide at 58cm .Narrow tail for sure great for turning,.Shame they don't make it in the old wood construction, probably make it more affordable to.
