Hi
I am 68 kg and 65 years old but pretty fit and no health issues.
I surfed shortboards as a teen/ early twenties but stopped for number of reasons
SUP surfing last 4 years at a beachbreak on US East Coast..small knee to waist high mostly except for few months of occasional chest to head high

Maybe not realistic but I would love to try longboarding.
What length / volume would be recommended for my situation? Thanks!

Hi, i am a similar weight and age and fit. I have also been surfing for many years and SUP surf. I SUP surf a 7' 8" Naish Hokua which is great but also surf a 8' 6" Takayama In The Pink in Surftech construction. It's is fantastic. Light and a quick paddler and surfs great. I take both boards in the car to my surf breaks and choose which would be best for the conditions and waves. I wrote a review in the Longboard Forum in Jan 2023. You can read that and see some photos.

Thank you very much. That is super helpful and I read your review post on the Takayama in the pink. I'm not as experienced a surfer as you but will look at that board. Funny the exact same 8'6" tuflite model is on sale at surf shop near me for USD 900.

Volume is your friend when you are starting out. I'd suggest something around 9'1 x 22.75 x 2.75 -- tweak a bit if you like the look of the board. That's heaps of board for someone of your weight and you can always go smaller once you've learned the ropes. But, TBM's right too (and yes, go for s reputable brand/shaper -- you get what you pay for) . I just see 9 foot as where 'longboards' begin. And I reckon make it as easy as possible at the start then do what we all do and buy and sell and upgrade until that's as much as a hobby as the actual surfing.
Anyway, 8'6 or 9ft - whatever - do it -- you will love it.

Finally picked up a CJ Nelson Apex 9'1" x 23.5" and 78litres.
First day out in small 1-2' waves and had a blast. I think the sup might stay in garage more often this summer??

It depends on what you want, classic or high performance longboarding.
i'm 64, 74 kg and my option is HP Longboarding. With your profile you should be good on a 9' Takayama Noa Ka Hoi or a more mudane 8.6 Tork the Don. Both are excellent boards for catching waves and manouvres!!
