I do catch some small/medium waves with it but steers like a tanker and is blo.. heavy so I've just bought a 2013 8.6 Fanatic All Wave. 30" wide and 130 lts.
Today I went sup surfing with it for the first time, waist high mushy waves.
First impressions:
-Feels light and tiny compared with the 10.6
-The shape looks good for surfing, but rails are very rounded and kind of bloated from mid to front. The good news is that they get much thinner towards the fish type back.
-She comes with a one piece Werner Nitro carbon: very light and stiff but too long for me
- Fell off a number of times during the first 15' After the initial mess, got the place & stance right (still work to do!). It floats me no problem
- Once I started catching waves the improvement over my tanker is dramatic. The Fanatic turns great, almost like my prone HP longboard. Done some effortless cut backs too.
-I see lots of potencial in this board. Plan to use it on small to medium waves(2-5 feet high) Above that I'll be using my prone longboards!
-Things to do, definetely cut down the Werner paddle to my height. Now is some 7/8" too long! I'll also test a longer central fin. From actual 5,8" to 7" looking for a straighter paddling and see what happens.
-Granted, I do need a lot more practising, but my first session has been very promising!!!!!
i'd love to hear about your experience with this board or other makes similar size
You don't need a bigger fin. You just need to adjust your paddling technique and get used to paddling a smaller board.
i sent my first message which I typed previously on my notes.
I didnt know that us newbies, cannot copypaste till we are proven!!!!
I'll have to type it again FGS
