So due to a couple of ongoing injuries, my SUPing is at a long-term pause.
I know this post is the antithesis of 'Stand Up' paddling but thought there might be some input from some of the crew with leg/back injuries.
Recently saw some info on a possible option to still get out into the lineup on small days, albeit laying down - called a 'Gut Slider' - designed by Keith Robinson : www.okesurfboards.com/our-boards/gut-sliders/
Anyone got any input on these? The bottom shape looks like it would give a lot better of an experience on a wave than a body board might?
808,as an older surfer in there 70 'S I looked at theses as well for the days I don't paddle any more ,to windy or just to big !and came to the conclusion that they would be heaps of funMy problem is I carnt prone paddle any more ,and I don't think you can use fins with them ?,so I'm currently trying boggers and Matt, but I have to admit I'm very nervous being down in the water ,and not standing above it

Cheers, justaddwater. Agree on the 'being down in the water' - probably non-PC to say, but when I was a kid we called body boards 'shark biscuits'
I think I might give a Gut Slider a go. Yeah from what I understand it's like paddling a prone surfboard (size of a short, wide thruster) so it's all arms. The bottom shape looks like it'd give a decent turn on a wave if weight is shifted well (and I have a lot of it to shift!)
You may want to look also at "bellyboards", such as the ones by Tom Wegener.

I was looking into one a summer with insane crowd and crappy waves, to have fun in "waves" nobody would take, and with too much chop to be fun in SUP. I was going to use a kid mini-Simmons (4'5") as I could not find a "surfie" like board in France, but waves were good again. But I kept the idea in store.
This gut slider seems quite interesting, and should be easier to paddle than a mini-mini-Simmons.
I may have a go at it next summer... or when age catches up with me.

Thanks Colas,I have checked Tom's website and many others, for the same reasons ,as you .weekend crowds ,holidays ,swell to big,to windy for a sup, where I live my local is surf mat central,so I am,trying to persevere, but it is without a doubt the hardest gig in the surf I have tried ,in over 5 decades of surfing.some of the guys are encouraging ,just gotta hang in there,as it's been said you can catch waves first surf but it will take years to master,im looking long term as the oldest guy is 84 and surfing very well .!!!

I must say I hate to have to wear swimfins, so I was not interested in surf mats or bodyboards.
I had quite a lot of fun sometimes bodyboarding without fins however.
I tried to belly-ride my remaining surfboard, but as a 9'1" it is not really fun.
One off these makes you very fast
Flowmaster,I have theMT5 the Ferrari,of Matt as Thomo says??shame I'm not an F1 driver??and they are slippery beasts to ride,I have just finished re applying deck grip ,here I go again ,just gotta keep trying !it's all about staying in the water????
Have you tryed sticky bumps wax ?
Thanks, but no thanks, for me the wax is to messy, gets over everything,I have applied a sika rubberised non slip as ,on the Matt sites on the net.funny you should mention wax,I would be in big trouble if I used any other wax than the one that is owned by a close friend ,flowmaster do you ride a mat?
Yes but not much, I only use it when there is to much wind, so waves are not clean. We have sika in europe, Sika flex black I use on the inside of my snowboarding gloves, its ok but icy snow contact means you need new layers every few weeks. So I use wax and clean it of after a few sessions just with warm water and soap. Yep it's a mes
