The Mexican Pipeline Goes OFF for Puerto Escondido Challenge

Big, Sandy and Perfect... They call it the Mexican Pipeline, and it's going OFF!
They call it the Mexican Pipeline, because it breaks just as big, and it's just as nasty when it's on. Right now, the worlds best Big Wave surfers are there for the first round of the WSL's Big Wave Tour, and it's going OFF!

Sure, the waves aren't quite as gnarly as we saw in Sydney earlier this month at Cape Fear. But this is a WSL event, so those who are part of it can actually compete! We've got one Aussie in the running, that's Jamie Mitchell, and so far it looks like he's in with a serous chance.

Scoring a perfect 10 points in his round one heat, Mitchell paddled like a mad man and took a drop requiring him to hold that rail with everything he had. Pulling up into a solid barrel, he held it together over the bumps and emerged in control. Just. It was a solid 10 pointer, and nobody else managed to come up with one.

With its sandy bottom and tame look when viewed from the beach, Puerto Escondido is a force to be reckoned with. It's fast. Powerful, and truly worthy of the big wave tour. Watch it live on the WSL webcast, or view the highlights from day 1 right here.
