After a few months out of the water, Taj Burrow is back in the lineup, and ready to get back on the bucking bronco that is the world tour…

In 2005 Taj broke his foot, and the resulting downtime gave him a chance to strategise, prepare himself mentally, and progress his technical surfing to new heights. He came back to second place on the world our in 2007, and right now we’re getting a sense of deja-vu.

Last year he went over the falls at ‘The Right’, known as WA’s heaviest wave, and one of the best right handers you’ll find anywhere. As he went, (over the big, big falls), Taj Burrow managed to tear two tendons straight off the bone in his shoulder. Shoulder tendons are arguably quite important in the world of surfing, so since the accident Taj has been bumming around on his couch and trying not to look outside. But this week, he paddled out again for the ‘Small Fries’ kids surfing event in Yallingup, WA.

"The planet was telling me to take a break. I was forced to rest but it felt good. Now, I am more excited about surfing than I ever have been.” Says Burrow. "It's been a total refreshment, having that time out of the water. You get a lot wiser when you get older and I feel like I'm smarter when it comes to performing in heats. With this new found excitement I've got from having this big break, it's all got me really hungry for the year ahead."

Will 2015/2016 be the year that Taj Burrow finally stands atop the world surfing tour podium? Keep an eye out for the WA local this year…
