Rip Curl Grom Search on this week in Indo
Jacob Willcox, Jackson Giles, & Isabella Nichols are flying the Aussie flag against the worlds best under-age surfers. Sixteen grommies will paddle out, at Lakey Peak, Sumbawa Indonesia thanks to a worldwide search by Rip Curl. Looking for the worlds best young surfers, the GromSearch has been running since 2011, now in it’s fourth year and growing each event.
In case you’ve never heard of the surfers in question, we did a little research for you, and came up with this about the trio.
Jacob Willcox is looking like a serious contender for the overall win. Selected as a wildcard in the recent Bells Beach Pro, the kid from Margaret River, WA just won the Chain Resources Mens Pro Junior at Fitzroy Beach, and is currently holds a QS ranking of 191.
His rival Jackson Giles, placed second in the Chain Resources Mens Pro Junior. Growing up in Maroubra, NSW, Jackson won this years overall GromSearch Australia round of competition. He’s got a serious chance for the win too.
And representing the girly groms we have Isabella Nichols. From the Sunshine Coast, Isaballa is quite used to being in the spotlight. After just missing out on a wildcard to the Roxy Pro last month, causing Surfing Australia national coach Andy King to comment: "That little strip of coastline is producing the best female surfers in the world and I have absolute confidence in saying that.".
Stay tuned to see how the grommies go this week in Indonesia, wish them luck!
