Nikki Van Dijk wiped out of the Fiji Pro

Nikki Van Dijk after a nasty closeout...
It just takes one wave to end your campaign, and unfortunately that’s what happened to Aussie surfer Nikki Van Dijk this week in Fiji at the ASP Fiji Womens Pro.

After an eight year hiatus, the Fiji Womens Pro is back and conditions are fantastic for 17 of the worlds best female surfers at the world renowned Cloud Break on Namotu, Fiji. Representing Australia are Steph Gilmour, Laura Enever, Sally Fitzgibbons, Tyler Wright, Dimity Stoyle and finally Nikki Van Dijk, who was knocked out of her heats at Cloud Break after taking a nasty wipeout.

Pulling into a short barrel, before copping a closeout to the head, Nikki managed to split both her upper and lower lip. The injury was too much to continue surfing, so she hopped on a rescue ski and was whipped back to the beach with blood pouring down her face in front of a concerned crowd.

She’s fine though, and although disappointed at missing her heat and bowing out of the competition, she’ll be back on the water in a few days, or at least when her stitches come out.

The womens finals are on this weekend, as are the mens heats and final rounds for the ASP Fiji Pro. We’ll bring the a report and results next week when it’s done and dusted.
