When one of the worlds best and most powerful surfers are in town, you jump at the chance to paddle out in the same lineup to watch. But perhaps it's better to watch from the lineup, rather than the impact zone?

It's training time at Lower Trestles in California, and the who's who of professional surfing are out there working with the small but enjoyable beachie. With swell running in the 3-4ft range, the guys are pumping hard and working on getting their fins lose off the top, which is unfortunate for this poor bloke who messed up a duckdive in front of Gabriel Medina. Just as Medina lines up for a bit of a smack, this guy leaves it too late to duckdive and cops three fins down his spine.

Maybe, it's hard to tell, but watching the video below certainly makes you cringe….
