Kelly Tried Lennys Hydrofoil - But Gave it Back!
Yeah, Kelly Slater has admitted he's far from a pro foil surfer after borrowing Kai Lennys board out the back of the lineup this week. Photographer Rod Owen was there, telling: "It was out Namotu lefts on a super glassy afternoon, Kai Lenny was out there with his brother Ridge. Both were ripping on the thing, which is still in the prototype stage. Waves were three-to-four feet with some nice little toobs. Slats (Slater) rocked up after about an hour of the boys riding it and seemed frothing to have a go. He attempted three waves. To me it showed how much of a talent Kai really is, if the best surfer in history was having issues."
Slater then got on social media, proclaiming: "Kai Lenny has us all fooled. He's a magician on this unrideable craft."
The first to paddle into a wave with a foil (Laird did it years ago being towed in), Kai Lenny again left the internet in a daze this week after footage emerged of him surfing waves, bailing off the back and then riding back out to the next one with a foil - just by pumping. But back to Kelly - Three waves and he handed it back… Perhaps this whole foiling thing is for the young?
