Kelly Slater and his extra curriculars.

Designer Slater, now putting his name to furniture.
Nobody can deny that Kelly Slater is on the move, whether it’s the rumoured departure from the world tour, or simply doing getting on with his life outside of the surfing world. Either way, you now have the opportunity to sit on a Kelly Slater inspired couch, sleep in his bed or study at his desk.

You can do all this because he’s teamed up with the US based superstore - Pottery Barn to create an eco friendly ‘Designer Collection’ room for teens under the PBTeen brand. Featuring Forest Stewardship Council certified woods, recycled material in the rugs, and 100% cotton bedding, it’s being toted as PBteen’s most eco friendly collection ever, signed by Kelly Slater.

Slater seems pretty into the whole thing, telling the magazine ‘Furniture Today’ that he’s “honored that PBteen has seen me as someone who can help a broader audience understand the need to use recycled, repurposed and organic materials. Global conservation is a focal point of the capsule collection and it falls right in line with the change and direction I’m working towards, on a professional and personal basis.”

When you consider what Mr Slater has been up to in the last 12 months, it’s amazing the guy can paddle out at all, let alone fend off the kids he’s competing against in the world tour. Just think about it all, he left his sponsor, is now a huge (like, pretty much the owner) of Firewire surfboards, started a new energy drink company, clothing company and now turning his hand to furniture.
