Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 starts today Saturday 29th October in Alicante, Spain. Amory Ross, Puma Media Crew Member, provides an update prior to the In-Port Race start:
The first of two major Saturdays is upon us and it would be silly to suggest we aren't massively anxious. It's been a very long time anticipating and preparing for 'day one' of this regatta and we're finally there.
The game plan is a simple one - race like we've trained, sail clean and sail hard; there's no question that everyone is up to the task. The new course will throw new obstacles our way (read: practice race), but in all likeliness the team that is going to succeed is the team that best deals with a little unexpected adversity and stays out of trouble.
Conditions look a little wet and a little windy, but this is the Volvo Ocean Race, right? It's time to strap on the foulies and enjoy the ride!
Live coverage begins at 1:45 PM local time (2 PM start), and can be seen on the
event website
or

. The race is expected to last about one hour.
