The Newport stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race had a surprise in store for Becca (soon to be) Walker, when she was hoisted up the mast of the Ocean 65 - Alvimedica during an elaborate marriage proposal by her boyfriend Taylor.

With a strict list of proposal requirements previously set out by Becca, including that her engagement had to be filmed without her knowing, Taylor planned the ultimate in sailing themed proposals. The plan, was to trick her into ‘winning’ a contest, which would see her climb the 100ft high mast of the Ocean 65 Alvimedica to collect a signed hat. At the top, she looks down to see her boyfriend with a microphone, film crew and all the bells and whistles, Taylor says those magic words – (well, almost those words, she got the message) then lowers her back down for a kiss.

The happy couple didn’t get much time to celebrate on board however, Alvimedia left the docks soon after for leg 7 of the Volvo Ocean Race on the 17th May. They’re currently crossing the Atlantic ocean for Lisbon in Portugal, where they are expected to arrive any day now, currently placed third in one of the tightest legs in the races history.
