Politician supporting kids sailing for advertising.
In one of the most useful advertising initiatives seen by the sailing community, local member of parliament; Glen Elmes from Noosa has supported the Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club's junior sailing program.
By sponsoring a Vagabond sailing dinghy, Glen not only gets the warm and fuzzies from helping kids get into the amazing sport of sailing, he also finds his name plastered across a sail. That sail cruises around the Noosa River almost constantly these days, teaching both kids and adults how to sail during the clubs regular lessons and camps. Of all the boats to sponsor, a Vagabond would have to be the most cost effective around. Designed way back in the hey-day of sailing by De Havilland, it's been tweaked a little in recent years and appropriately been dubbed the Vagabond MkII. Fitting two sailors in comfort, or 20 kids for a bit of fun (possibly more), the dinghies are near on indestructible and great fun to sail. This year the Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club are on track to complete 14,000 lessons during their Youth Sail program, which utilizes thirteen Vagabonds owned by the club. Perhaps every politician should sponsor a Vagabond, and then every couple of years we'll bring them together for a race. First to cross the line gets to be Prime Minister, and sailing as a sport gets a whole lot more funding! While that idea is never going to happen, you might convince a politician to throw some dollars towards your local sailing club. Next time you're sending in an email to your local member, add a P.S. to the bottom. P.S. You should sponsor our local sailing club!
