Delays for Solo Antarctic Circumnavigation - Lisa Blair

Electrical issues have struck 'Climate Action Now', the Ocean 50 formerly known as Funnel-Web just days before Lisa Blair was to set off on her record breaking around Antarctica voyage.

Aiming to break the record for the fastest circumnavigation of Antarctica, set in 2008 by Fedor Konyukhov, as well as become the first woman to sail solo, non-stop all the way around the continent. Adding to the trip, she will take part in the Antarctica Cup Ocean Race along the way, putting the purpose built short handed racer to perfect use.

But right now, she's still sitting in the marina in Albany, WA, opting to delay the trip due to electrical issues. With 3 months unassisted ahead of her, the Southern Ocean is not a place which lends itself to breakdowns. Better to be safe in the marina wishing you were out there, than to be out there wishing you were in the Marina!

A revised departure time will be released as soon as the boat is ready to set sail, and we'll be following along with Lisa and her adventures as she breaks records and raises awareness for climate change.
