What's worse than being in the water with a shark?
Being in a boat with a shark!
This unfortunate situation was realized by a Victorian man earlier this week after he was taken to hospital with some pretty serious wounds to his upper thigh.
To make matters worse, upon arriving at the beach, the SES crew couldn’t even take him over the sand dunes to get him to an ambulance. Instead they had to take him up the beach and down an access track, to avoid the Brown Snakes that live throughout the sand dunes in Victoria! Imagine getting bitten by a shark, then avoiding killer snakes before getting treatment!
It all started with the guy catching a 1.5m shark while fishing in his boat off Sale on the East coast of Victoria. As he hauled the catch into the boat, either the shark has lunged at him, or he’s tripped and fell on it, causing it to thrash around and take a chunk out of the guys leg.
According to John Mullen from Ambulance Victoria,
"He's been treated and stabilized at the scene by paramedics, and the bleeding has been stopped, he's now in the process of being transported to Sale Hospital in a serious but stable condition."
So next time you’re out fishing for sharks, make sure you don’t fall on your catch, because the next bite you get might not be on your lure!
