The $1 million 'Barra Bountry' - on offer in the NT
On the first of October, 76 Barra will be tagged by the NT Government, starting a bounty hunt worth nearly $2 million! Released back into the waterways, recreational anglers have until the end of February to find them and claim the bounty, all they have to do is register online before the catch! 75 of the fish will fetch $10,000 each, and one lucky little guy will fetch a cool $1 million.
It's all about bringing in tourists to the Territory, providing an extra incentive for recreational anglers from all over Australia to visit one of the countrys best recreational fishing destinations. Chief Minister Adam Giles says it's the worlds best place to 'stay, play and fish',
"The NT has some of the best fishing in the world and the chance to catch the iconic Territory barramundi is one of fishing's greatest challenges. Now that challenge comes with the potential of a one million dollar reward. The promotion is times to influence travel to the Top End during our low season from October to February with anglers encouraged to travel with their families and enjoy the unique tourism experiences and spectacular landscapes the whole of the Territory has to offer."
With a reported 1 billion Barramundi swimming around the Territory, your chances at catching one of 75 fish are a little harder to calculate, but catching the million dollar barra? One in a billion…
