Ever wondered what it looks like when 30,000 people go ice fishing on one lake? You probably haven’t wondered; but just in case you did, it looks like this.

While we went fishing last weekend in our tinnys with nothing more than a t-shirt and board shorts, the largest ice fishing contest in the world was happening on Gull Lake, Minnesota. 30,000 holes were drilled in the ice, and around each one (well, around most of them anyway) sits a guy with a camp chair, and a fishing line.

It was all in the name of charity, but for us Aussies, the sight is quite literally mind boggling. We can’t quite work out how any fish swimming below the surface managed to swim anywhere, it would have been like swimming through a minefield. Maybe that was the idea though…
