Fisheries Queensland is reporting that native fish numbers in the Callide Dam are increasing as the dam's water level increases.

Four years ago stocked barramundi levels were nearly wiped out when low water temperatures killed around 12,000 fish.

Due to recent rains water levels have increased from six percent of the dam's capacity to over 25 percent and Fisheries Queensland is now working with the Callide Valley Native Fish Stocking Group releasing over 100,000 fingerlings since 2008. This includes approximately 36,000 barramundi, 64,000 golden perch, 2,200 sleepy cod and more than 200 saratoga.

It's reported that the average size of barramundi lost in the fish kill was around one metre but the barra stocked since then are already measuring in at 600 mm.
