NSW Central Tablelands receives fish stock boost

Fish stocks on the New South Wales Central Tablelands have been boosted recently with the release of 80,000 trout cod into the upper Macquarie River.

Over the past ten years over half a million trout cod have been released into the Macquarie and Murrumbidgee Rivers which, while a protected species that must be released if caught, is assisting in stabilising and replenishing the endangered species' numbers.

Anglers should remember not to confuse the trout cod with the Murray cod. Trout cod have the overhanging upper jaw, a stripe through the eye and spotted markings.

The fish were bred at the Narrandera Fisheries Centre under the New South Wales Government's stocking program.
