Fisherman catches drone from mid-air

Drone pilot Tice Ledbetter was flying around the San Diego pier taking some aerial footage last week, when a fisherman turned his attention from the water to the sky!

Captured on film (because after all, that's why the drone was flying), the fisherman quickly reels his line in with angry glances at the drone. Unknown to the pilot, the guy then walks across the pier, and casts directly at the DJI Inspire drone! Noticing the cast, and fearing for his aircraft, the pilot guns it skywards, thinking he's avoided the flying fishing line and sinkers. After all, it would have to be a pretty good cast to land a drone flying above you!

Well, turns out the cast was pretty good, and it actually draped the fishing line around the prop shaft of the drone, which costs upwards of $3500 here in Australia! After that, it's not known whether the line was cut by the carbon fibre propellors, or if the drone pilot managed to spool the anglers reel and get away.

Either way, this makes for one good 'the one that got away story!' Check out the video below to watch it all unfold, complete with 'ye-old-western' theme music and sound effects...
