Boyne Hookup Event Saved by three Volunteers

"There's a lot more to Gladstone than just industry, and the Boyne Tannum HookUp shows people that."
When the current committee of the Boyne Hookup all stepped down, after 20 years in the event, it was uncertain whether or not the event could continue. With nobody at the helm, and lacking a committee of passionate volunteers to run the 'Boyne Hookup Association', the event would simply disappear.

Rather than letting such an amazing drawcard to the Gladstone region fall by the wayside, three local anglers stepped up to continue the 20 year tradition, and thousands of anglers held their rods high in support. New president Jennifer Maguire has been fishing in the Hookup since it began 20 years ago, saying:

"You can work and earn a good income in Gladstone but in your time off there is a lot to do. There is a lot more to Gladstone than just industry and the HookUp shows people that."

She's joined by treasurer Adam Balkins, secretary Pat Laws and continuing vice president Ned Beaumont make up the team that will be organizing the 2016 event, and have already chosen a date for the long weekend fishing comp.

April 29 through to May 1, the 'May Day' weekend will be the weekend that Central Queensland descends on Gladstone and Boyne Island, for the 21st annual Boyne Island Hookup.
