BCF State Of Origin Fishing Competition a Success

The 2009 BCF State Of Origin fishing competition held on the Brunswick River in northern New South Wales was a huge success. Over 50 anglers and their families from Brisbane Fishing Online and North Coast Fishing NSW showed up representing the Blue and Maroon and to put friendly rivalries to the test. The "friendly" aspect was soundly demonstrated by the amount of time participants dedicated to the social side of the event over a BBQ and beers. But social attitudes aside there was a competition to win and some serious time and effort was then spent getting points on the board.

Friday started off strong and fast with every category for the competition receiving entries. After the previous postponement of this event due to terrible weather conditions he weather had really turned it on with glassed out waters and low winds. This resulted in superb fishing conditions for the three-day event.

Saturday's results were similar to Friday with some great fish being boated and recorded. It was a slightly later start for some after an extended Friday night at HQ, but this was easily supplemented by reinforcements who couldn't arrive till Saturday morning. The new photo entry method was used to good effect with the vast majority of fish caught being released unharmed.

With some sensational entries made on Saturday, most entrants headed out on Sunday with upgrades in mind. The competition points at this stage were looking close so the competitive streak in several people was coming to the fore!

After all fish were entered and the tallies were made across the jew, bream, tailor, flathead and trevally categories the final results were:

Queensland: 10 points
New South Wales: 16 points

New South Wales took out the event with a 6-point margin!

Special thanks go out to all who attended the event and helped make it such a success. The high turn out and positive feedback indicates high hopes for this event in the years to come.
